Why it works

  • Gives a ball gown or full A-line the shape it was drawn with
  • Three hoops, so the skirt holds its volume through a whole reception
  • Elastic waist, which means nothing to measure months in advance
  • Costs less than the alterations it saves you from asking for

Ball gowns and full A-lines are designed over a petticoat. Without one the skirt hangs flat, which is why the dress in the shop mirror rarely matches the one in the lookbook. Three hoops, elastic waist, nothing to size months in advance.

Bring it to your alterations fitting: a petticoat lifts the hem, so the length has to be pinned with it on. Free worldwide shipping.

Good to know

Does my dress need a petticoat?

Ball gowns and full A-lines are designed over one and hang flat without it. Fitted, mermaid, sheath and most crepe dresses do not need one at all. If the skirt looked fuller in the lookbook than on you, this is usually why.

Will it change my hem length?

Yes, and this is the part brides get caught by. A petticoat lifts the hem by a few centimetres, so bring it to the alterations fitting. A hem pinned without it will be too long on the day.

Hoops or tulle layers?

Hoops give more volume for less bulk at the waist and hold their shape all evening. Tulle layers are softer and sit better under a lighter A-line, but they flatten as the night goes on.

Is it comfortable to sit down in?

Hoops fold as you sit, which takes one rehearsal to get used to. Gather the skirt behind you and sit forward rather than dropping straight down, and it behaves.
